International Youth Photo Exhibition: The Nairobi Summit for a Mine-Free World

Welcome graphic

Information and Background about the Exhibition
  • Place: Nairobi, Kenya
  • When: November 29th - December 3rd 2004

The Mine Risk Education Sub-Working Group of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines invites children aged 8 to 12 years old to participate in an international photo exhibition, whereby all children are encouraged to express their views of a "Mine-Free World."

Children who wish to participate must submit a drawing addressing the question:

What does a Mine-Free World mean to me?

Judy Kitts from the Landmine Resource Center in Beirut will collect the entries and display them at the First Review Conference of the Mine Ban Treaty, where hundreds of participants including world leaders, government ministries, NGOs, international organizations, UN agencies, and activists will be able to see the vision of children around the world.

The Nairobi Summit is a major milestone in the life of the Mine Ban Treaty. The event itself, and the lead-up to it, will bring new impetus to everyone working to rid the world of antipersonnel landmines.
Notice: All possible techniques can be used to do the drawings: felt pends, paint, pencils, crayons, markers, etc. However, we will only accept drawings submitted on legal size paper (8 1/2 X 11). Every drawing should include the child's name, age, country, and a small photo of themselves. Participants are also asked to include a short description of their drawing.

ALL DRAWINGS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY OCTOBER 1ST 2004 to the address below.
